Swedish EU Presidency in talks with UN Secretary-General

July 4 the Swedish EU Presidency, met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Bangkok to discuss the situation in Burma.

The Secretary-General visited Burma on July 3-4. The trip was part of the UN process, intended to promote a democratic development in Burma.

During the trip Secretary-General had conveyed  his message to Burma's supreme leader, Senior General Than Shwe, but he was disappointed that the military junta did not allow him to meet opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The EU representatives gave their full support to the ongoing UN process.

The European Commission, the Spanish Ambassador and the Bulgarian Ambassador also took part in the meeting.
